This winter scene was painted from imagination/memory of the forlorn VT winter landscape. If you are a non-new-Englander, perhaps it would interest you to know that we have two addition seasons to the original four known to most, and they share the same name: "Stick Season" comes in the rainy months both preceeding and following winter, and lasts for months. This is a painting tribute to "Stick Season", but the lone tree is so personified, that it couldn't escape dominating the title; hence, "Winter Vigil".
The original 5×7” watercolor was created in a series of 9 watercolors which were donated by auction to raise money for the Jericho Congregational Church building campaign. The entire set sold for $1000 to a generous donor who in turn gave the series back to the church for ongoing display. 50% of the profit from each of these prints will be donated to the JCC building fund.
